Beads and Necklaces
-
We are thrilled to introduce a new system at Palmetto that was thought up and designed by our Climate and Culture Committee! The aim is to recognize and promote positive behavior and academic achievement in a fun and meaningful way. We are launching this at our first rally to reward our students for their accomplishments and the embodiment of our core values.
-
All students will be given a blank silver beaded necklace (they can be given an additional necklace, if needed throughout the year). Students will be able to earn beads to add to their necklace. They will wear their necklaces during our rallies so we can call out students who earn different sets of beads!
-
The beads will work as follows:
Hearts
-
Students will earn a heart bead by meeting weekly iReady academic goals in math and reading. The heart-shaped bead will indicate that students have completed and passed the designated amount of lessons per each subject area each week. Therefore, students may earn up to 2 heart beads each week. This bead represents their dedication and commitment to their academics.
Silver Tiger Paw
-
Students will earn a silver tiger paw each quarter they achieve attendance that is 95% or higher (up to 4 beads earned per year). Recognizing the importance of regular attendance, students will earn a bead for maintaining high attendance rates. This bead symbolizes their commitment to their education and punctuality.
Gold Tiger Paw
- Students will earn a gold Tiger Paw for earning met or exceeded standards on math or ELA SBAC. This bead will only be available to students in grades 4 and 5 and will be given out one time per year.
P-A-W-S
- Students will earn our school value beads of persevere, adapt, wonder, and serve at the teacher discretion. They may only earn one of each of these beads 1 time per year. For example, if a student exemplifies the value of service by being a team player, helping others out, picking up trash without prompting, and showing kindness to classmates, that may earn them their “service” or “S” bead. Students will have the opportunity to earn these beads for demonstrating these values in their daily actions and interactions with others. All members on campus can report positive reports about students for teachers to consider earning these P-A-W-S beads. For example, if the school site aides witness a student consistently going above and beyond to help others at lunch and recess or intervention and RSP teachers report back that student is continuously showing perseverance as they are working through academic challenges, these may warrant the teacher to award the student their bead for that area.
Black Jeweled
-
Students who earn this bead have completed the requirements for the reclassification process, showing proficiency in the English language.
