FUSD Book Battles 2024-2025

What are the FUSD Book Battles?

The Book Battles (BBs) are a voluntary reading challenge for students in grade 3rd through 5th for the Elementary Division grades 6th-8th for the Middle School Division, and grades 9th - 12th for the High School Division.

Teams of 5 students per team compete against each other by answering questions about the Book Battles titles for each division. The winning team of each school site is invited to compete against the winning teams of the other participating schools.

I hope you are as excited as I am for our next fun adventure with Read Across America Week. Inside your box, you will find a colored folder containing our game for the week and a reading log for your students to compete. Both activities are optional, so please do not feel obligated to complete or distribute these activities if you have too much on your plate now.

We are excited to announce our first activity: Children’s Book Bingo!

How it works:

  • Each student will receive a bingo card.
  • Dr. Moyer will call out book characters in the morning from March 3rd -March 7th
  • If the intercom is out for the day, an email or teams post will be sent out.
  • Students will mark their bingo cards when they hear a character called.
  • The first student to get five in a row and call out "Bingo!" wins.

Important Notes:

  • Some bingo cards may be duplicated, so the first student to call out "Bingo!" is the winner.
  • The prize for the winner is a goody bag, which will be placed in each teacher’s box.

If you prefer not to have your class participate, no worries! Please feel free to pass along your prize to another class that is playing.

Books and Bundts Reading Log

I am thrilled to share that Nothing Bundt Cakes is offering a free Bundtlet to students who complete a reading log from March 3rd to March 31st with a total of 400 minutes of reading. This averages out to about 15 minutes of reading per day.

How it works:

  • Students should complete their reading logs by March 31st.
  • Once completed, they can take their flyer to the Fontana location of Nothing Bundt Cake to claim their free Bundtlet.
